Welcome to Local 68!
New Member Information

This page has been created just for new members of Local 68. Here, new members can learn about all of the services available to them through Local 68 IUOE.

We welcome our new members!

You have joined one of the premier labor unions in the State of New Jersey. For more than 100 years, Local 68 members have operated and maintained facilities that service New Jersey's business and industry. Today, more than 6,000 Local 68 members work at public and private sites throughout New Jersey helping to keep the state's economy growing and thriving.

By joining Local 68, you are now a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), which is a progressive, diversified trade union that primarily represents operating engineers, who work as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and surveyors in the construction industry, and stationary engineers, who work in operations and maintenance in building and industrial complexes. Founded in 1896, the IUOE today has more than 400,000 members in some 200 local unions, including Local 68, throughout the United States and Canada.

I encourage you to review all of the materials found on this page as a way to familiarize yourself with the many benefits available to you through Local 68. I also offer you these points of advice:

  • Take Pride: Take pride in your union membership. Help us protect the jobs that are ours and do all that we can to create new ones along the way.

  • Get Involved: Attend union meetings and events. Union meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month at a different location each month for North and Central New Jersey. Quarterly union meetings are held in Atlantic City in September, December, March and June. Get to know your union brothers and sisters.

  • Educate Yourself: Take classes at one of our education centers. Visit the Local 68 website frequently. Commit yourself to continuously upgrading your skills.

Again, I welcome you to Local 68. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, your business agent, or one of our staff members.
